You know, I haven't heard that term before - "hospitalist". But it fits.
You know, I can put up with about anything, but if you try to control me professionally or personally (is there any other kind of control?), I respond poorly. I mean, outwardly I may seem fine, but I swear I'd "cut off my nose to spite my face" in some situations. This is why micromanaging just kills me. You know, he's decided for the last year that I need to punch a timeclock? Originally, he thought he'd pay me less... but turns out he would have to pay me more. So after a few months, it was back to our agreed daily rate (plus the originally rare bonus). Since the bonus has become a monthly thing (hello, I'm obviously producing here), he feels he needs to adjust it down "since expenses are more." Of course they are.
I do enjoy private practice, however, seeing the same patients year after year, knowing what goes on with their lives and their kids. I've had people go from engaged to married, engaged to "he/she left me for another boy/girl", married to widowed/divorced/seperated, and vice versa. I just had one woman come in who seemed surprised that I remembered that she had 2 standard poodles, and had to get rid of her cat (that she'd had for 12 years) because the poodles attacked it as puppies. Now, why she'd think that I (a cat lover) wouldn't remember someone getting rid of a beloved pet because the "new pets" didn't like it... well, that's a peeve of mine.
It's fun to watch the kids grow, too. I've been at the same place for 4 years, so I have a number of repeaters. Unfortunately, it makes me feel older!
OK, I think this response might be as long as the original post! But I may pull your ear more for advice, OK?
