Anyone manage to get a DVD Recorder to hook up to a HD cable box & a TV?

I was told to hook the Cable box up to the DVD player using an S Cable & A/V Audio inputs, then connect the DVD to the TV using the Component inputs & A/V audio inputs.

So:
1) Cable from wall to the Input on the cable box (that works).
2) S video Out on Cable to S Video In on DVD
3) A/V 2 prong cord OUT from the outputs associated with the S Video Out on the Cable box to the A/V 2 prong IN on the DVD.
4) Component (3 prong) from DVD OUT to TV IN (3 Prong)
5) A/V 2 prong cord from DVD OUT to the same grouping holding the 3 prong component part on TV IN.

Then audio out on the TV to the stereo.

But this doesn't seem to work.

Any advice?
