Weirdest thing
Feb. 16th, 2006 04:07 pmJust got a call, from someone purporting to be from my host, asking for my fax number. When I expressed disbelief that my host would call me, they said that the server was down, that they were upgrading the virus protection, and they needed my fax. I told them I would call my host directly, and they said "no, this isn't a service call, it's just to upgrade our records." I told them I wasn't going to give them any info. They got upset, and said "if this isn't (my RL name)..." and I stupidly said "yes, it's me." Then they asked for the fax again. I told them there was no fax, and they got all huffy, saying "that's all you needed to say, that there's no fax." So I repeated that back to them, and they hung up.
I wonder what they were phishing for? Because I stupidly verified my RL name, but it's public info that I'm the owner of that domain.
ETA: Called the host - as I expected, they said they'd never call and say something like that. Hm.........
