I got my computer back tonight. It's smokin' hot! Of course, it should be, since it had the equivalent of a heart-lung-liver transplant.
Turns out that the motherboard was bad. And the only motherboard they had that would fit my processor (which I had purchased at the latter part of 2005) was very expensive. So I was willing to upgrade the processor, too, because things had been running so slow.
But then, the video card (which was grandfathered into my new computer, but was a mid 2005 purchase) was the limiting factor, because it would only work with a few motherboards.
So what is a girl to do when her computer is down, and she wants it, nay, needs it to run faster, better, stronger?
I replaced them all. Motherboard, processor (up to a Intel Dual Core from an AMD), and video card. So I should be able to do just about anything (according to them) - play any game I want (although I'm not a gamer, but I want to try Second Life), rip DVD's while doing graphics... we'll see how it does.
But so far, so good!
