Writer's Block: Ewww

What is one food that you refuse to try? Why?

Actually, this is that damned LJ meme from the homepage. But I thought I'd do it.

Insects. Pretty much any kind. Although I did try snails once, when my best friend & SO ganged up on me. And when they asked me how it was?

"It was a snail."

"Yeah, but how was it?"

"It was a snail. I ate a snail..."

I couldn't get past it.

What about you?

ETA: Ummm... is a snail an insect? I just thought of it as exotic, like caviar... but insects?!? Christ, I'm a idiot, I don't know, even though I had zoology (light years ago). I might puke, 3 years after the fact...

Lamb. I won’t eat lamb. I was traumatized by the Jurassic Park movie where the lamb’s leg lands on the roof of the SUV.

Brr, there's a billion things I won't eat. I do eat beef, chicken, turkey and pork (only sliced ham for the latter), but won't eat any other animal. I figure I already eat those four things, there is absolutely no need to eat rabbit or emu or duck or deer. I would be vegetarian if I knew how to cook. :/

I think a snail... is not an insect. But I don't know either!

I love everything, but not ham (bacon/back ribs/chops etc OK). Don't know why the aversion, but there is is. Can ignore it if sufficiently masked, but still.

I love all animal, pretty much, exotics too, except maybe frog legs (although those were the ones my gramma gigged in the backyard, and might have been over cooked)...

And I hope it's not an insect... [livejournal.com profile] mi_nion says it's a mollusk, like clams...

Honestly? I can't see myself eating animal flesh ever again. In fact I'd like to stop eating cheese and dairy as well, but I lack the will power.

However, in my younger days I ate all sorts of things; frog legs, snail, chitlins, sous meat, chocolate grasshopper & alligator are a few I can remember.

animal flesh just sounds nasty............

*spits out the burger*

I just read that. Land-living mollusks... I can go with that, since I like their brethren!!!

*feels much better*

I tried octopus once, in it's own ink.

OMFG what the hell was wrong with me? And....I was in Mexico. Nope, I'll never do that again. And no one can make me.

In my day I would make fried calamari & calamari with spaghetti oh yeah and a mean paella. Now? The thought is nauseating.

I can't think of anything I wouldn't try at least once. I've eaten some really strange things in my life, liver, heart, snails, caviar, octopus, kangaroo, to name a few of the odd ones.

I guess if something smelled completely horrible, I wouldn't put it in my mouth. I just can't think of anything specifically. I'll try just about anything at least once.

Edit: As long as it is no longer moving or alive.

I had to throw that in there, just in case.

One of the girls I work with is very slim, yet with the appetite of a trucker. My favorite story about her? She came into the lab, looked at the leftovers of one person's lunch, said "What's that? It smells like feet." When offered it? She took it, and ate it all.

*laughs*

I still tease her about it.
