We are having about 15 people over tomorrow. And the SO is totally lackadaisical about it, wanting to get up, grocery shop, then exercise, followed by cleaning the house. I think there isn't enough time.

But that's not what I'm freaked out about.

His friend is thawing out the tur-duck-en... on his back porch. It's... 40 outside now, and will be down to 34 deg F at 6 am. So maybe we won't get poisoned, but I was always taught that you couldn't just leave stuff out to thaw, or it would do so unevenly, and you'd get sick.

It's probably cold enough out there... what do you think?

Well...the "danger zone" is between 40-140 degrees, so it's kind of skirting it a bit tight. OTOH, my husband eats stuff that's been forgotten on the counter all night and has never gotten sick.

Which is a big help, I know. :P

Two ladies from the Butterball Hotline were on TV today. They said the proper way to defrost a Turkey is either in the fridge overnight or in a sink of cold water... the water method being faster. So err... if the porch is the same temperature as a fridge I suppose there's not much difference? But.... I'd opt for the fridge or water if possible. Basically the key is to thaw it slowly. It'll probably be fine though.... cooking the thing should get rid of bacteria and stuff anyway right? Happy Thanksgiving! :)

I'm a bit of a germaphobe. I'd be eating everything but the birds.

Sorry. Guess, I'm not the one to listen to if you want fowl.

Happy Thanksgiving

How big is this turkey? We usually get a 20 pounder and start thawing it in the fridge on Sunday night. It can take a long time with a big bird.

Once it hits 40F we use our back porch as the outdoor refrigerator. We've always done this and haven't gotten sick.
