I just bought a new high-volume printer cartridge at Costco for $52, because it turned out that the last one I had printed in olive, teal, and hot pink instead of green, blue, and red. I thought I'd gotten a bad one, and planned to return the old defective one in the new wrapper, for exchange for a usable one.

But the new printer cartridge prints in yellow, hot pink, and turquoise only! So obviously the greeny part of it is worse (since olive became yellow, and teal became turquoise - hot pink was unaffected, I think).

Crap, it must be my printer. Of course, it is almost 4 years old... but crap.

I guess I need a new one?

And if I do, I'm getting a printer/copier/scanner/fax, because I've run into a few situations with my work (self-employed) where people want to fax me stuff, or have me scan info to send to them. So I guess I could write it off.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to fix my printer? Or any good suggestions for a combo unit? I don't have a seperate line, so I have no idea how the fax thing would work. I have DSL at home, so the phone doesn't ring through to the computer... I'm not even sure there is a modem in there, as I had it built, and may have been an idiot... But there is a phone jack not far from where the unit would be... maybe it could hook into both of them, seperately? Like, 5 rings = gets fax (since I have a tollsaver option on my answering machine).

ETA: In other news... I hate working other people offices. Stuff is set up so wrong for me, my lower back has been screaming at me since about 2 pm, and then a 5 car pileup on the freeway (some idiot managed to cross into oncoming traffic) made it worse. I need a painkiller... or a good massage, but since that isn't coming, I think a Vicodin or Percocet could help - at least for sleep.

I sympathize completely with your office/traffic woes. What is with all the sucktastic drivers?

I find it hard to be too mad at those who severely fuck themselves up by being idiot, since they've earned their own luck... but still...

I think I hate the looky-loo's the most - stopping traffic to gawk.

Although I'm one to talk, the girl whose mother lived by the polics scanner at night, and who was awakened many times to drive to the scene of horrific accidents, so Mother could see what was going on.

I was the one (at about 12) who told her (while looking at the damage) that the car couldn't be a Corvette (as she thought) because a Corvette was made of fiberglass, and would have shattered, not peeled back to reveal the drivers footwells/seats & interior at the car that drove under the parked semi did.

I also noticed that the lump of ick in front of me at the end my the street after the car/motorcycle accident was pink and curvy - like brain matter. She promptly moved me away.

Oh, the life of a child whose mother was ruled by the police scanner...

We just bought this http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=11034034&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=&s=1
and are very happy with it. It got pretty good reviews - my husband always checks that sort of thing. Plus, the ink is cheaper than our old printer, which used the same ink that you have.

I saw that one today! But it doesn't fax... maybe I can figure out how to do that another way...

Depends on how you want to set up the fax situation. You can split off the DSL phone line or use the fax software on your PC - depends on what it is and how it's configured - you might not even need a fax, actually. Check that out first. You can also use fax services that provide you a faux fax # and then email you the document. Lots of ways to go. I don't like multifunction machines of any stripe. You have to send something out to be fixed, you lose the entire thing.

True... there's a lot to look into. And I've avoided multifunction machines before, for the very reason you stated.

I guess I should just think about it a bit more, and do some research.
