Just had a doctor call (from a town 30 miles/40 minutes away) asking potentially for 7 days in October, as a trial. He had a doctor leave that had been with him 14 years, and is trying to find another to work full time for him (but he's in trial mode, and he hasn't been there for a while). Sent him my Curriculum Vitae - we'll see if he calls back to firm up the schedule.

But if this works, life will be OK for the winter. Another doctor asked for Wednesdays permanently, this doctor wants Tues & Thurs, and a friend of mine will soon be forced to work 7 days/wk (the pain of commercial practice), so she's looking for someone to pick up a day, any day... I could put her in on Fridays (which would give me Tues-Friday permanent), and leave Saturdays open (because they are easy to fill).

Which would add up to 4 days definitely per week, probably 5, and I have another doc who wants some Sundays.

Suddenly, I may have gone from almost no work after the first week of October to a definite 4 days per week, and probably 5, and maybe 6 at times. Why buy a practice, when you can simply fill your schedule, work the days you want, and get a paycheck? No overhead, no staff worries... no security, either, though.

Winter is looking definitely survivable... but no 2-3 week trip to Mexico. *sigh* The parents are going to sell that place before I get down there again.

Ah, the joys of being self-employed...

P.S. I don't think I'm buying the practice I was thinking about. Just found out today. They are asking way too much (included $50K cash assets in their value of it, like they would return that to me in the purchase), plus they have a union contract (which is unheard of in this business) which would likely torpedo it. So this work is coming at a perfect time.

Huuuuuuge breath of relief! (Neandertal/Homer voice: Mmmmm. Steady paycheck gooooood.)

I'm semi-job-hunting. Just saw the coolest job today, but less money. But an interesting job. Trying to figure out if I can afford to even think about it.

Good luck with the trial :)

I agree on the YAY!

And I got the book today. Thanks so much! The place I'm at today seriously had NO ONE on the books for tomorrow (but I get paid anyway, and there will be walkins, maybe a ton)... so it will be nice to have something new to read!

P.S. Any idea where the travelling book is now? I'm just curious about it's journeys...
