sgorny: (Horrified Brian - WTF)

I love my mother, I really do. She is a sweet, wonderful woman who would do anything for me. I never doubted, any time in my life, that I was the best thing that ever happened to her. That she would lay down her life for me.

But she has her oddities, too. For example...

I got my mother an Easter present. Lennox china has always been big in our family, and I thought she would like it. Plus, since she seems to kill all plants, I figured dried flowers would maintain their beauty for a long time, only needing an occasional dusting.

I called her this afternoon, to thank her for the Easter candy she sent us. The call started with the usual pleasantries, then went something like this...

"Oh, by the way, the flowers were beautiful! And the vase... the vase was Lennox!" she said, in a slightly awed tone. I love that about my mother, she's so easy to please.

"Yeah, I know how you love it. And the flowers are dried, so you don't have to worry about them," I reply.

Pause....

"What?" she asks, confused.

"The flowers are dried, so they'll last forever," I say.

"They are? I thought they were real. I put water in them."

*headdesk*

I'm worried because I have no idea what happens to dried flowers if you put them in water. I'm guessing they mold.

"Go pour it out right now," I say, a little frantically.

"Okay, I will once we're done talking," she says unconcernedly.

At that moment, my phone beeps - the SO is calling. So I say, "That's K on the other line. I'll call you right back. Go pour out the water!"

......

She couldn't tell they were dried flowers? I mean, I know her vision isn't perfect, but it isn't THAT bad... and the fact that they are brittle, that just meant they needed water?

I hope they dry out okay...

I am sure they will be fine, as long as they weren't in the water that long. Which ones did you send her? The link just went to the homepage...

Hee! Your mother sounds so cute. My mother's the same way about not being able to keep plants alive--she even managed to kill off a cactus! Hope the dried flowers turn out okay. Maybe if she puts them in the sun, or uses a hair dryer on them, it will avoid the mold problem? :/
