Just a general question....

autonomist posted today about people taking parts of locked posts and placing them in various unlocked places. This made me start thinking (never a good thing!) and led to this question...


If you make a Friends-locked post, and someone wants to add it to their Memories section, is it imperative that the Memory also be Friends-locked? Because the link obviously won't work if the viewer isn't Friended also.

The reason I ask is because I have quite the huge Memories section, and I'm always adding new stuff I like to it. I usually am going pretty fast through my LJ F-list, so most links get added as Public.

This probably isn't a problem, but I wondered if people who F-lock their fic mind that my Memory link to them isn't F-locked. I'm thinking more along the lines of RPS fic, where some people might not even want anyone seeing their name listed along with the RPS title/rating.


If you have a problem with this, or I'm stepping on toes, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll keep soldiering on.

Exactly. It's a moot point because no one who doesn't already have access will be able to see it anyway. If you friends lock it too, that means only your friends can see you linked it, but only people on their friends list can still read it.

I don't think anyone really cares whether or not the person other than yourself viewing the Memories can read them. The point of Memories is for yourself, you know?

True... although I've been told by a few people that they use my Memories sections extensively.
