Freaking out...

... just called the surgeon, because when I was getting ready to take my antibiotic, I noticed that it said "Do Not Take With ANTACIDS" - and I've been taking 3 Tums, three times a day for the calcium per his orders. Turns out that it's probably OK with Tums (not other types), but he recommends spacing it out. It would have been nice to know this 2 days ago when I started the meds.
But, that's not what spun me off axis.
He said, "Your voice sounds very breathy today."
"Yeah, it does," I replied.
"Did it sound that way yesterday?" he asked.
"Yeah, it did," I reiterated.
"Because it didn't sound that way in the hospital. Your voice was soft, but less breathy," he stated.
"I know," I said worriedly.
"Hm... Well, it should continue to get better. Do you have enough pain meds until your appointment next week?" he asked.
"Yeah," I responded.
Now, I'm worried. He is basically saying that my voice is worse than it was originally right after surgery, even though my pain level is a lot lot less, and he seems concerned about the breathiness. And now I'm wishing I didn't read all that about vocal complications, because I'm freaked that I have a paralyzed vocal cord, and that it will begin to atrophy, and my voice will get worse and worse.
Now, I know I'm only 4 days out. And that I still have swelling, and healing to do. And even the bruises on my arms from the blood draws & IV's haven't faded yet, so how could I expect to be all better? That is the S.O.'s argument.
But he didn't hear the surgeon's voice. And I'm not expecting to be 100% better - I'm just not expecting to be worse. And now my throat is doing an odd "catch" thing when I swallow that it didn't do before.
I know, there is nothing I can do at this point. I have to wait and see how things turn out, because whatever damage was done is done, and there is still healing to be had. Even if there was damage to the nerves, they often recover significantly over a few month period.
I'm just freaked out. You know, right now, ignorance would be bliss.
