sgornyI had a laser procedure in my left eye today, because I had a "dense media opacity" that was affecting my vision. The surgeon had significant difficulty with the laser, especially aligning the focusing mechanism. He called another surgeon three times to ask about how to adjust it.
But I know that using different equipment than you are used to is kind of like driving a foreign car. You know how to drive it, you are really competent... but you can't figure out how to turn the damn lights on.
And he didn't do any treatment until he got it figured out.
But I had the treatment lens suctioned on my eye for at least... 30-40 minutes total, and he was pressing on it a lot, not just as he treated, but as he was trying to figure out why it wasn't working. And eventually, he said he could do it, but afterwards indicated he was only able to treat one small side (like 1/5-1/6 of it) because the laser was limited to within a certain angle for firing (and *not* when it was near to straight ahead).
End results indicate that the "dense media opacity" has moved inferiorly and temporally (down and to the right), and *may* be out of my line of vision. But they have to check to see which clinics near me might have a more "adjustable" laser to treat it.
And because the treatment took so long? I can't see detail out of that eye. No abrasion, minimal superficial punctate keratitis, but... there was obviously some irregularity induced by the lens. Or it was the potent anti-glaucoma drops I got pre-treatment, which *may* have decreased my ability to remake the fluid pressed out when he pushed the lens on my eye...
I don't know. I just hope I can see better tomorrow. I'm using artificial tears like crazy, but it's still all messed up.
And I have to check for glaucoma tomorrow, and treat myself as needed...
