[Poll #1011420]

He thinks signs would be insulting, like "Don't Let the Cats Out!"

But on more discussion, "maybe a happy little kitty picture with the words 'Look Out for Cats!." ?? I think it's more effective if it's to the point.

I like the suggestion in the first one about telling them and then reminding them when they go in and out....but, if they show concern about the cats getting out, I wouldn't remind them every time...jsut the first few.

The thought of a kitty getting outside scares the crap out of me, so I would put up signs and remind your guests repeatedly. You don't want to risk it.

When the kids get there, tell them you're giving them one big responsibility while they're visiting: they're in charge of making sure the cats don't get out. You could even promise them a small treat if the cats son't get out while they're visiting. Kids that age understand treats better than they read, understand and follow signs. :)

You could always do both. Tell them when they get there, and then put the signs up as a reminder. A picture of a cat with "Please look out for our cats" at kid height wouldn't be insulting. That way the parents know it's a reminder for the kids and not necessarily for them.

Not to scare you, but my sister lost one of her cats this way.
Visiting kids, opened door, cat out, cat defunct in the road.
And the parents, frankly, didn't think the kids did anything
at all, even though they were told NOT to let any animals
outside. They did anyway. And they were around 7 or 8, old
enough to know better, you'd think. My sister is no longer
friends with these people, but it's too late for the poor
cat!

My 9 year old niece knows not to let any animals out, but
she lives there and knows she doesn't want them hurt or
lost. Strange kids? I wouldn't trust them at all. Maybe
that's my paranoia, but I wouldn't.

You didn't give the option of 'both' which is what I'd do.

There is no such thing as insulting people when it comes to them taking care of your babies. I have 3 cats. I completely understand. Two of them are de-clawed and I would rather be safe then sorry. Do both.
